Nine Types of "Calvinism"

The link below lists 9 types of "Calvinism." The first two and last one are outside the bounds of historic Calvinism. I myself would generally fall under the 4th one which is listed as Regular High Calvinism. Though there are hyper and hypo views I'm open to which are not my default views. For example, my default view is standard Owenian Limited Atonement. But I'm open to universal atonement, or mediating views like an Amyraldian view; or even one where the extent of the atonement is universal, but the intent is particular. Another example is the issue of whether reprobation is conditional, unconditional or both in different senses [see my exploratory blog Here].

The article seems to acknowledge that there can be more mixing and matching but that doing so would proliferate to too many categories.

Calvinism by Ben A. Warburton

 

I just found out that Ben A. Warburton's book Calvinism is freely online. It was one of the books I read that I found to clearly explain the basics of Calvinism. It's similar to the earlier published book by Loraine Boettner's titled, The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination, but doesn't go off into tangents and speculations like Boettner's does. I agree with some of the speculations and tangents Boettner makes in his book, and others I think are unnecessary, or false or are misleading. For example, I myself am  now a postmillennialist, but Boettner gives a false impression by speaking as if Calvinism and postmillennialism are necessarily linked. Boettner speaks about physics in a Newtonian fashion and correlates that with Calvinism's doctrine of God's exhaustive providence. But Newtonian physics has been replaced by quantum physics in the world of science, and so the correlation that Boettner makes no longer works. Though, I do not think that quantum mechanics undermines God's exhaustive providence. With qualifications like that (and others) I can recommend Boettner's book [linked above]. But I don't need to make such kindS of qualifications in Warburton's book. Here's the link:

Mary’s Assumption Should Make You Protestant

 

Gavin Ortlund changed the name of the video from "Mary’s Assumption Should Make You Protestant" to "Why Mary’s Assumption Is Indefensible" One of the better reasons for changing the name of the video is that just because Roman Catholic beliefs about Mary's Assumption are false doesn't necessitate that Protestantism is true.
